What to wear?

I’m hoping this post will inspire your photo session, and give you some ideas of how you want your portraits to turn out.

For family shots, I do find very plain, subtle clothing against a white backdrop extremely effective – calming almost! All the attention is then focussed on the wonderful smiles, rather than the bright jazzy patterned clothing.

I do, however, love the glimmer of green which is introduced into the following image.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to go all white like an advertisement for washing powder – this pastel pink is so pretty and suits this little girl perfectly.

If you’re after something more dramatic, I’ve been shooting on black backgrounds for seven years now, it’s how I started out, and I still feel it’s so striking – especially when we dress the subjects in dark colours. The following mother is wrapped in a black pashmina…

Please don’t think I’m against using colour, not true at all. Look at the lovely blues in this image, it works so well.

At the end of the day, these are only tips. This is YOUR photo session, not mine, but dress in a way which makes you happy and it’ll be evident in the images!
