Beautiful outdoor location, West Green House Gardens, Hartley Wintney

A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of doing my first family portrait session at West Green House Gardens in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. It’s a National Trust property and so there’s an entrance fee but I think it’s pretty reasonable – adults £8, children 6-16 £4 and under 5s are free. If anyone fancies doing a photo session here, I’d say it would be worth your while to pay to visit, we would shoot for an hour and then you could spend a bit of time relaxing in the gardens, perhaps even having a cup of tea or lunch in the lovely cafe.

I had no experience of photographing in this location and found it to a photographers’ heaven! Plenty of little nooks and crannies to get creative in. It was a fairly easy session anyway, as I was working with two little girls who are 7 and 5 and very cooperative indeed. I do love little ones, but of course they make you work far harder! 🙂

These shallow steps leading up to a water pond and temple are a favourite place to play:

Here the girls are sitting in the shade of a little summer house with beautiful light falling onto their faces:

Love the texture and colour of trees in the background of a portrait:

Plenty of lovely colour to add into the photographs:

A very relaxed family photo, walking through an apple tree arch:

I was so excited about what I achieved that morning, I took my children to West Green House the following weekend to capture some portraits. They are sat on a upturned canoe by the edge of the pond, you can see the water ripples in my son’s photo which I just love. I really like the way the children look like they’re amidst a wild jungle and I’d really like to hang these in my living room which is a very natural mixture of browns and greens.
